Tim's Alcohol Ink Splatter

This brightly inked tag is for Grungy Monday #13 challenge over at Studio L3. Linda has selected for this week Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Inks technique.  I bought his book, "A Compendium of Curiosities" a couple of weeks ago, and was flipping through it today and saw his Alcohol Ink Splatter technique on page 52 and thought I would give it a try.

I'm always nervous using stamps on alcohol inked surfaces. Half the time they don't work for me. I actually paper pieced umbrella girl. I stamped her on the tag, then again on different scraps I had leftover, and then glued them on top. Same with the sentiment. I stamped it on the tag, but some parts of the words didn't show very well. Stamped it on some leftover scrap, then matted on black cs. I find StazOn ink works better for me.

The Supply List:
- Various colours of Adirondack Alcohol Inks; used the brightest ones I have.
- Adirondack Blending Solution
- Compressed Air
- Glossy card stock
- Tim's stamps: Harlequinn and sentiment  are from the Boundless Flight set
- The cute little umbrella girl is from a set called, "Les Petites Whimsies" by Sandra Evertson. I bought them from Stampington & Co.
- Pink glitter button ; bling ; clip and colourful fibre from The Dollar Store

Here's what it looked like after I splattered the inks:

So go check out the other entries, here. Linda has a link to Tim's Alcohol Ink technique on her site, Studio L3

Here's a video of Tim demonstrating the splatter technique:

Ok. I found a video. Didn't think I would find one. Staying with the theme of the tag, I thought this was a good fit. Boyz II Men singing The Temptations song, "Just My Imagination". Just as good as the real Temptations! Love Motown! 2 videos this post! Holy Cow! More bang for your buck! And, the mail is moving again!

Have a look and listen. Sing along if you want to...you know you do!

Thanks for stopping by. Leave a word or two before you go. Have a look around too!

Colour of Money, At the Mall, Tim

Shopping Is A Form Of Art
This is convenient! One tag, three challenges! Ya gotta love that! And...it wasn't planned!

First off here are the challenges:
1. Gingersnap Creations: GC108: Color Of Money
2. Gingersnap Creations: GC105: Chestnut Theme : At The Mall
3. Grungy Monday 12: Tim Holtz Technique April 2008

The "Colour of Money" challenge is to use the colours found in your money. Half way through making this tag, for the TH challenge, I came upon this challenge and thought the colours were very close to our $100 dollar bill. I just happened to have one hanging around! Canadian money is very colourful. You can see the other denominations and the colours, here. It was just in the news in the last day or 2, that Canadian paper money is going to be replaced with plastic money. Supposed to last a lot longer than paper. Hope it's not too bulky!

The other components fit in with the "At The Mall" challenge; price tag, sentiment, woman with handbag.

The brown grid piece on the tag is for the "Grungy Monday 12: Tim Holtz Challenge" You can see his demo here.

I say "colour", you say "color". Here's the lowdown on "colour and color"

The scoop on supplies used:
- Distress Inks: Tattered Rose (my fav!), Shabby Shutters, Vintage Photo, Bundled Sage
- Stamps:  Tim Holtz stitch stamp, grid stamp.
- Lovely lady is from TH paper stack, Crowded Attic
- Americana DecoArt Milk Chocolate (yum!) Acrylic Paint
- Spica Buttermilk Glitter Pen on her hat and purse
- Odds and Sods: tape measure from Dollar Store, ribbon was beige and was inked with matching Distress Inks used on tag, button, eyelet, sentiment from computer in American Typewriter font, safety pin.
- Price tag from a blouse. Don't know what blouse. I don't believe I have it anymore. It was actually marked down to $50. (the sale price part of the tag was fluroscent red and didn't go so I cut it off) There's no friggin' way I'd pay $80 for a blouse! $80 Canadian, that is!

Without the dough
Go have a look at the challenges and see the other entries. Lots of creative minds out there in bloggerland!

Here's a good video. Meryl Streep singing Money, Money, Money from Mama Mia. Have a look and listen. Sing if you want to! You know you want to....

Ripped, Torn & Distressed

The Letter
This card is for the Simon Says Stamp and Show Your Distressed/Torn Edges Challenge. Lots of stuff going on here! For the pink background I stamped white card stock with Tattered Rose and some Weathered Wood; spritzed with water; dried with heat tool; sprayed some Glimmer Mist Glacier. Sprayed some Glimmer Mist Coffee Shop on the torn letter under sentiment.

Here's the Techno Babble:
- Tim Holtz stash: Pen Nib, Pen Nib stamp, Trinket Pin "Secrets", Distress Inks: Tattered Rose (my new fav!), Weathered Wood, Vintage Photo, Old Paper. Tissue Tape
- Clip Art images: Postage stamps, Post Card, letters, are all from various free Vintage Clip Art sites. See my sidebar on the right for free vintage clip art sites. You can get Typewriter Head Girl  as a freebie at Pringle Hill Studio.
- Glimmer Mist: Coffee Shop, Glacier. Pink pearl pin, lace from Dollar Store
- Sentiment is from computer; American Typewriter font.
- Versa Fine Vintage Sepia ink
- Stampin' Up! Binding Edge punch

A couple of closeups:
I was going to put an old manual typewriter here, and then I found this lovely lady with one on her head! Didn't notice until after I posted, that she's cutting her hair off with scissors! She must be really upset over the letter!

This was great fun to make! Go have a look at the other entries, hereThanks for stopping by, and leave a word or 2 before departing!

I think you know what video I picked. It's pretty obvious! It's a good one too; in HD. Here's Joe Cocker singing "The Letter"

You Are Laugh Out Loud Funny
For me, I 'm calling this challenge KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid!).

This was a hard one for me, as I found myself wanting to add more to it. When it said Clean & Simple, I immediately thought crisp, clean white card stock as the base. I very seldom if ever, do white. This card was actually my second attempt. The first one got so many ink splotches on it from my inky fingers it looked like I dropped kicked it across the room!

No idea where I got the corner stamp. There is another one in the set; little different and larger. The sentiment stamp is from Michael's $1.50 bin. Thought it went well with Angel's attitude! She is another great stamp you can purchase at Stampotique Originals.

Have a look at the other entries in the SDC32: Clean & Simple - Any Stamps Challenge. BUT, before you leave, here's a video from one of my fav bands, Aerosmith, singing "Angel". Thought it would do nicely, since this post is all about her!

Have a look and listen.

Oh wait! Bet you thought I forgot! Well, I couldn't find a good Father's Day song, so here's a good one of Paul McCartney singing "Drive My Car". Since I have a car in the tag, I thought this would go nicely. Paul opened with this song when he came to Halifax in 2009. This is the concert in Quebec in 2008.  Thanks for looking and have a very creative day!

Sing along if you want to! You know you do.....
